Two projects, one mission: Making wet farming work

Palus Demos isn’t working alone – we’re part of a wider network of paludiculture and peatland projects across Europe.

Our sister paludiculture project PaluWise is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative dedicated to accelerating the large-scale transition to paludiculture – the productive use of wet and rewetted peatlands. While traditional peatland management often relies on drainage (which releases massive amounts of CO2), PaluWise is dedicated to demonstrating that farming on wet peat is not only ecologically vital but also economically viable.

TPaluWise Logohe project operates four demonstration sites across Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United Kingdom. These sites are pinpoints where theory transforms into practice by testing everything from carbon sequestration and water management to the development of new value chains for wetland crops like downy birch, typha, reed, sedges and sphagnum.

By bridging the gap between research and commercial application, PaluWise provides landowners, policymakers, and industry leaders with the evidence-based tools needed to restore European peatlands while securing rural livelihoods. The main goal of PaluWise is to transform degraded organic soils into resilient, productive landscapes that support the EU’s climate neutrality targets for 2050.
