Palus Demos is hiring: Independent Ethics Advisor – Freelance/Consultancy Role

Palus Demos, a four-year Horizon Europe project investigating the commercial viability of wetlands farming, is seeking an Independent Ethics Advisor on a consultancy basis to support its 26-partner consortium across Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands.

About Palus Demos Palus Demos investigates paludiculture, or wetlands farming, with the goal of turning rewetted bogs into profitable farms and developing markets for wetlands crops. Working with farmers, businesses, researchers and policymakers across three demonstration sites in Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands, the project aims to demonstrate the commercial viability of paludiculture as a sustainable and economically viable option for both farmers and industry. Led by the University of Galway, the consortium brings together 26 partners spanning Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.

The Role The advisor will consult with consortium members on health, safety, environmental and social ethics, and will produce three written reports of approximately ten pages each.

Deliverables Reports are due at the following intervals:

  • End of July 2026
  • End of January 2028
  • End of January 2029

Requirements The ideal candidate will have land use experience, and a background in environmental consultancy with a knowledge of ethics would be particularly suitable for this role.

Eligibility Candidates must not be a direct employee of any partner organisation within the Palus Demos consortium.

Remuneration A quotation will be required with applications. The advisor will be paid by invoice, and an appropriate fee will be agreed with the successful candidate.
